Oh my good God, Grand Theft Auto V has made an absolutely ridiculous amount of money.

While it’s no news the Rockstar Games series is extremely profitable, I personally had no idea just how profitable it was.

Since its release in 2013 to mass acclaim, GTA V has generated nearly $6 billion, making it the most lucrative than any game or movie ever released. Wow.

Complex reports the game has sold an absurd 90 million units in total, dwarfing the former holder of that title, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas with a puny 27 million units…

Last year, it was revealed the long-awaited GTA 6 was in the works.

Motion capture actor Tim Neff has listed work for the currently unannounced game on his online CV noting Rockstar as being the company producing it.

According to IGN, NeoGAF user ‘chadskin’ noticed the addition on Neff’s profiles on Resumes Breakdown Express and iStunt.com.

Typically motion capture work is completed some way into game production suggesting that an announcement isn’t far away.

It is definitely likely Rockstar are developing a follow-up due to the immense popularity of the previous games, but so far they have remained tight-lipped.

It was the first evidence we had seen that the game is being developed but we have no indication about whether it is legitimate.

More rumours spread last year last year that a sequel was in production with since-departed Rockstar president Leslie Benzies saying that the company had ’45 years worth of ideas we want to do’ with GTA.

He said:

Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favourite areas.

In that context, re-imaging Vice City would be very interesting.

We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we’ve got some ideas.

It comes from the idea first. Where it is going to be set is the first question.

Then that defines the missions; you’re doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the mission in.

Let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later!
